A peek inside my favorite cafe in Antigua, Guatemala. Old opera memorabilia lines the walls, and Maria Callas blares from the boombox. I wonder why the doors are barred up like that. Do they keep the doors locked for safety reasons?
Yes, Mark -- it's for safety. Practically every cafe, store, pharmacy, laundry, every little tienda has iron bars on the front to keep out thieves.
oh and yes the coffee is terrific there!
