Air Jaldi community wireless network conference kicks off

Laird Brown from the Air Jaldi summit in Dharamshala, India writes:
Yesterday we kicked off the AirJaldi Summit. We have 200 guests from all over the world, some from as far away as Venezuela and Ghana. Roger Downer, the President Emeritus of the University of Limerick, gave an exception keynote on day one - a beautiful big picture talk that looked at civil society, the environment, and the role of technology. Everyone closed their laptops and stopped doing email when Roger spoke, his talk was that good.

We had a traditional festive Indian lunch, served on banana leaves with everyone sitting on the floor trying to eat with their fingers. I cheated and used a soup spoon.

Richard Stallman also spoke on free software, human rights, and development. He was in rare form. As part of his shtick Richard put on a robe and halo, and blessed all assembled in his capacity as Saint iGNUsius of the Church of Emacs. So special.
